{"id":38,"date":"2013-01-22T09:08:08","date_gmt":"2013-01-22T09:08:08","guid":{"rendered":"https:\/\/evapark.city.ac.uk\/?page_id=38"},"modified":"2018-10-24T14:42:42","modified_gmt":"2018-10-24T13:42:42","slug":"virtual-worlds","status":"publish","type":"page","link":"https:\/\/evapark.city.ac.uk\/?page_id=38","title":{"rendered":"Virtual worlds"},"content":{"rendered":"<p style=\"text-align: left\">EVA Park is an online, multi-user, virtual environment (MUVE).\u00a0\u00a0 It was built using the <a href=\"http:\/\/www.opensimulator.org\">Open Simulator<\/a> (also known as OpenSim) platform which is similar to <a href=\"http:\/\/www.secondlife.com\">Second Life<\/a>.<\/p>\n<p>Virtual environments (or virtual worlds) mirror many aspects of life, with buildings, parks, cities, and virtual events such as meetings and parties.<\/p>\n<p>Each person using a virtual world is represented by a computer character, or \u2018avatar\u2019. Users of virtual worlds can talk and write messages to each other and take part in virtual activities, such as going to a party or visiting a restaurant.<\/p>\n<p style=\"text-align: center\"><a href=\"https:\/\/evapark.city.ac.uk\/wp-content\/uploads\/sites\/2\/2013\/01\/NoahLott_20130627_1830_barista.png\"><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" class=\"aligncenter wp-image-251\" src=\"https:\/\/evapark.city.ac.uk\/wp-content\/uploads\/sites\/2\/2013\/01\/NoahLott_20130627_1830_barista.png\" alt=\"Coffee shop server\" width=\"350\" height=\"272\" \/><\/a><\/p>\n<p>EVA Park is a private virtual world for people with aphasia.\u00a0 It contains realistic areas such as a town square with a health centre and restaurant where people can practise functional communication.
